INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, OCTOBER 15, 2013
A RESOLUTION
1Designating the week of October 20 through 26, 2013, as "Pro
2Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at
4low or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to more
5than 100,000 low-income clients each year, including 10,000
6mortgage foreclosure cases and 12,000 domestic violence cases;
7and
8WHEREAS, The fifth annual National Pro Bono Week will be
9celebrated at the end of October 2013; and
10WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week is an opportunity to
11highlight the difference attorneys make in their communities, to
12recruit and train more pro bono volunteers and to acknowledge
13the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private
14bar's most successful pro bono efforts; and
15WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association is once again
16joining with the American Bar Association to sponsor this
1October's annual National Pro Bono Week celebrations; and
2WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week provides numerous
3opportunities to highlight the good work Pennsylvania attorneys
4do for the most needy among us; and
5WHEREAS, Pro bono legal services contribute to the effective
6and efficient administration of justice; and
7WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating National Pro
8Bono Week with what have become annual events at many sites
9across this Commonwealth, and with new events being planned for
10this year; therefore be it
11RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of October 20
12through 26, 2013, as "Pro Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
