A RESOLUTION

 

1Urging the Congress of the United States to commend Korean-
2American veterans of the Vietnam Conflict for their valor and
3loyal service to the United States.

4WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of soldiers from the Republic
5of Korea were sent to defend freedom around the globe during the
6Vietnam Conflict, supporting American troops and the cause of
7democracy and often paying with their lives; and

8WHEREAS, There were 325,517 Korean soldiers who served in
9Vietnam from 1964 until the last soldier left Saigon on March
1023, 1973; and

11WHEREAS, Korean soldiers were the second largest contingent
12of troops sent by allies of the United States; and

13WHEREAS, Korean soldiers battled bravely throughout the
14theater, fighting alongside American soldiers and earning the
15utmost respect and gratitude for their skills, dedication and
16tenacity on the battlefield; and

17WHEREAS, There were 5,099 Korean soldiers who lost their

1lives defending the cause of liberty and 10,962 Korean soldiers
2who were injured, many in defense of their American friends and
3allies; and

4WHEREAS, Korean-American veterans of the Vietnam Conflict
5upheld the highest ideals of the United States through their
6dedicated service and considerable sacrifices, with many
7continuing to carry the visible and invisible wounds of war to
8this day; and

9WHEREAS, It is estimated that thousands of Korean veterans of
10the Vietnam Conflict currently reside in the United States and
11most of them have become American citizens; and

12WHEREAS, Approximately 8% of Korean-American veterans of the
13Vietnam Conflict live in the Philadelphia area; therefore be it

14RESOLVED, That the Senate urge the Congress of the United
15States to commend Korean-American veterans of the Vietnam
16Conflict for their valor and loyal service to the United States;
17and be it further

18RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the
19Korean-American Association of Greater Philadelphia as an
20expression of the abiding gratitude of this country and this
21Commonwealth for the service and sacrifices made by Korean-
22American veterans of the Vietnam Conflict in defense of freedom
23and democracy.
