A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing May 25, 2013, as "National Missing Children's Day"
2in Pennsylvania and urging local governments, communities and
3law enforcement throughout this Commonwealth to participate
4in the protection of children and to educate children about
5child abduction and sexual exploitation and how to respond
6and seek help.

7WHEREAS, According to the United States Department of
8Justice, an estimated 800,000 children are reported missing each
9year; and

10WHEREAS, On average, every day approximately 2,000 children
11are reported missing to law enforcement agencies; and

12WHEREAS, More than 200,000 missing children are the victims
13of family abductions and 58,200 missing children are victims of
14nonfamily abductions; and

15WHEREAS, The National Center for Missing and Exploited
16Children exists as a resource to help prevent child abduction
17and sexual exploitation, help find missing children and assist
18victims of child abduction and sexual exploitation, their
19families and the professionals who serve them; and

20WHEREAS, National Missing Children's Day is a time to

1remember those children who are missing and give hope to their
2families; therefore be it

3RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize May 25, 2013, as
4"National Missing Children's Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
5further

6RESOLVED, That the Senate urge local governments, communities
7and law enforcement throughout this Commonwealth to participate
8in the protection of children and to educate children about
9child abduction and sexual exploitation and how to respond and
10seek help.
