1Honoring the life and legacy of Margaret H. Thatcher, former
2Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

3WHEREAS, Margaret H. Thatcher passed away Monday, April 8,
42013; and

5WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher served as Prime Minister of the United
6Kingdom from 1979 to 1990, making her the longest serving Prime
7Minister of the United Kingdom during the 20th century; and

8WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher was the first and only woman to serve
9in the role of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; and

10WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher exemplified a life-long commitment to
11advancing freedom, liberty and democracy; and

12WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher showed leadership, conviction and
13friendship in continuing the strong alliance between the United
14States and the United Kingdom during a tumultuous period of
15international affairs; and

16WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher, was a champion of peace and a
17stalwart ally of the United States of America in opposing the

1spread of communism and bringing an end to the Cold War;
2therefore be it

3RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania honor the life and
4legacy of Margaret H. Thatcher and remember her unwavering
5friendship with the United States of America.
