A RESOLUTION
1Designating April 7 through 14, 2013, as "Days of Remembrance of
2the Victims of the Holocaust" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945 six million Jews were murdered in
4the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic pogrom of genocide,
5and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and
6WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always
7remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such
8horrors are never repeated and should continually rededicate
9themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and
10WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain
11eternally vigilant against all tyranny and should recognize that
12bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and
13WHEREAS, April 8, 2013, also recognized as 26 Nisan 5773 in
14the Hebrew calendar, has been designated internationally as a
15Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust, known as
16Yom Hashoah; and
1WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this
2Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration;
3therefore be it
4RESOLVED, That the Senate designate April 7 through 14, 2013,
5as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust" in
6Pennsylvania, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in the
7hope that we may strive to overcome prejudice and inhumanity
8through education, vigilance and resistance.
