AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled,
2as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class
3and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and
4changing the laws relating thereto," further providing for
5requests for examinations and reports of coroners.

6The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
7hereby enacts as follows:

8Section 1. Section 1235.1 of the act of July 28, 1953
9(P.L.723, No.230), known as the Second Class County Code, added
10December 17, 1990 (P.L.728, No.182), is amended to read:

11Section 1235.1. Requests for Examinations and Reports.--(a)
12Requests for examinations or other professional services by
13other counties or persons may be complied with at the discretion
14of the coroner pursuant to guidelines established by the county
15commissioners.

16(b) A set of fees and charges for such examinations or
17professional services shall be established by the coroner,
18subject to approval by the county commissioners, and shall be
19accounted for and paid to the county treasurer pursuant to

1section 1960. Payment for examinations or professional services
2shall be the responsibility of the county or person requesting
3such services.

4(c) The coroner may charge and collect a fee of up to one
5hundred dollars ($100) for each autopsy report, up to fifty
6dollars ($50) for each toxicology report, up to fifty dollars
7($50) for each inquisition or coroner's report and such other
8fees as may be established from time to time for other reports
9and documents requested by nongovernmental agencies. The fees
10collected shall be accounted for and paid to the county
11treasurer pursuant to section 1960 and shall be used to defray
12the expenses of staff, equipment and supplies related to 
13determining cause and manner of death, and those expenses
14involved in the county complying with the provisions of the act
15of March 2, 1988 (P.L.108, No.22), referred to as the Coroners'
16Education Board Law.

17Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
