AN ACT

 

1Amending Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania
2Consolidated Statutes, further providing for duties of
3department.

4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:

6Section 1. Section 702 of Title 51 of the Pennsylvania
7Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding paragraphs to read:

8§ 702. Duties of department.

9The department shall have the power and its duty shall be:

11(13) In consultation and cooperation with the United
12States Department of Defense, to create, administer and
13maintain a searchable database of individuals who have been
14awarded the Medal of Honor as well as any other award or
15decoration that is granted for heroic service in the armed
16forces of the United States. The searchable database shall
17include the following:

1(i) The recipient's full name.

2(ii) The recipient's dates of service.

3(iii) The name of the award or decoration.

4(iv) The date of award or decoration.

5(14) Within one year of the effective date of this
6paragraph, the department shall issue a report detailing the
7feasibility of expanding the database established under
8paragraph (13) of all military awards and decorations. The
9report shall include an estimate of the costs to the
10department associated with the establishment, administration
11and maintenance of the expanded database under this
12paragraph. The report shall be published on the department's 
13Internet website and shall be delivered to the Veterans'
14Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee of the Senate
15and to the Veterans' Affairs and Emergency Preparedness
16Committee of the House of Representatives.

17Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
