AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 
2act relating to the public school system, including certain 
3provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 
4schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 
5laws relating thereto," in teacher certification, providing 
6for military science certificates.

7The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8hereby enacts as follows:

9Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
10as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
11section to read:

12Section 1207.2. Military Science Certificates.--(a)
13Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the
14Secretary of Education may issue a Pennsylvania military science
15teaching certificate to a person who <-meets the following:

16(1) possesses a valid military science certificate or
17endorsement issued by a branch of the United States Armed Forces
18authorizing the person to teach military science and the Junior
19Reserve Officer Training Corps; and

1(2) <-satisfies the requirements <-is not disqualified under
2section 1209.

3(b) A Pennsylvania military science certificate may be
4issued to a person possessing the qualifications listed under
5subsection (a)(1) and (2) without meeting additional education
6and assessment requirements for issuance.

7(c) A Pennsylvania military science certificate issued under
8this section shall qualify a person to teach military science or
9Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in the public schools of
10this Commonwealth.

11(d) <-Except as provided under this section, no area of
12certification may be added to a Pennsylvania military science
13certificate through only testing unless the person holds a valid
14Pennsylvania instructional certificate endorsed in another
15subject area. <-Except for a military science teaching
16certificate, nothing under this section shall be construed to
17modify the requirements for the issuance of a Pennsylvania
18instructional certificate endorsed in another subject area.

19Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
