A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the week of October 19 through 25, 2014, as
2"National Massage Therapy Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania to
3honor the more than 8,350 licensed massage therapists in this
4Commonwealth.

5WHEREAS, Massage therapy is beneficial to overall health and
6is increasingly part of integrated health care; and

7WHEREAS, Consumers are spending $8 to $12 billion annually on
8massage therapy; and

9WHEREAS, Therapeutic massage can benefit people of all ages;
10and

11WHEREAS, A growing body of clinical research shows massage
12therapy is beneficial for a wide variety of health issues,
13including stress, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, arthritis,
14back pain, muscle injury and soreness, headaches and solely for
15maintaining good health; and

16WHEREAS, The American Massage Therapy Association, a

1professional association for massage therapists, provides
2consumer and professional education information on massage and
3helps consumers and health professionals locate qualified
4massage therapists in their areas; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
6week of October 19 through 25, 2014, as "National Massage
7Therapy Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania to honor the more than
88,350 licensed massage therapists in this Commonwealth.
