A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the 100th anniversary of Sheraden Park.
2WHEREAS, The neighborhood of Sheraden traces its roots to
31856, when William Sheraden purchased 122 acres for use as
4farmland; and
5WHEREAS, Sheraden Borough was annexed by the City of
6Pittsburgh in 1907; and
7WHEREAS, In 1914, the City of Pittsburgh acquired and set
8aside 23 acres of William Sheraden's original tract for use as a
9greenspace; and
10WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh paid the sum of $14,500 for
11this 23-acre tract; and
12WHEREAS, Sheraden Park was established on this 23-acre tract;
13and
14WHEREAS, Sheraden Park was later expanded to its current size
15of 51 acres; and
16WHEREAS, The Sheraden Citizen's Improvement Council was
17instrumental in refurbishing Sheraden Park in 1974; and
1WHEREAS, Sheraden Park today offers a host of recreational
2facilities, including picnic areas, ball fields, sports courts,
3a swimming pool and playgrounds; and
4WHEREAS, The 100th anniversary celebration of Sheraden Park
5is planned for August 16, 2014; therefore be it
6RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
7100th anniversary of Sheraden Park.
