A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of April 2014 as "Financial Literacy
2Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Financial literacy is critically needed to achieve
4personal financial goals which allow all Pennsylvanians to
5attain the highest quality of life available in this good
6Commonwealth; and

7WHEREAS, Personal financial practices and habits are formed
8during our childhood years; and

9WHEREAS, Many young people establish bad financial management
10habits and stumble financially, learning by trial and error; and

11WHEREAS, Increasing the financial literacy of all economic
12and ethnic groups has proven successful in improving attitudes,
13leading to improved decision making, and providing a more secure

1future for individuals who have been educated in financial
2literacy and their families; and

3WHEREAS, Financial literacy training may easily be integrated
4as a valuable component for elementary and secondary schools,
5colleges and universities, community groups and citizen town
6hall meetings; and

7WHEREAS, This endeavor is worthy of support and cooperation
8for the benefit of the citizens and consumers of this
9Commonwealth and protection of their financial future; therefore
10be it

11RESOLVED, That legislators, employers, schools, service
12groups, community organizations, libraries, financial
13institutions and the media be encouraged to provide
14opportunities for financial literacy education for all
15Pennsylvanians through a variety of means, including
16collaboration with members of the Pennsylvania Institute of
17Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Jump$tart
18Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, in order to provide
19outreach and education; and be it further

20RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in special
21recognition of the importance of increasing financial literacy
22among Pennsylvania's citizens, both young and old, recognize the
23month of April 2014 as "Financial Literacy Month" in
24Pennsylvania.
