A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the week of October 7 through 13, 2013, as "National
2Midwifery Week" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, This year, National Midwifery Week will be
4celebrated during the week of October 7 through 13, 2013; and

5WHEREAS, The American College of Nurse-Midwives,
6headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland, is the official
7national organization for the nearly 12,000 certified nurse-
8midwives and certified midwives throughout the United States and
9the official sponsor of National Midwifery Week on the national
10level; and

11WHEREAS, This national event is an opportunity for women
12across the United States to gather for education and celebration
13of the health care service provided by midwives; and

14WHEREAS, Midwives have been a vital and growing part of the
15advancement of women's health in Pennsylvania since 1929 and
16were collectively responsible for 13,922 births in 2010, or more

1than 9.7% of all births in Pennsylvania; and

2WHEREAS, National Midwifery Week acknowledges the important
3role midwives play in women's lives. Whether assisting a woman
4as she gives birth or providing personalized, well-woman health
5care, midwives are truly partners with women in making health
6care decisions; therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
8week of October 7 through 13, 2013, as "National Midwifery Week"
9in Pennsylvania.
