A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating October 18, 2013, as "Conflict Resolution Day" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The board of directors of the Association for
4Conflict Resolution adopted a resolution designating the third
5Thursday of October as Conflict Resolution Day; and

6WHEREAS, The Association for Conflict Resolution is a
7professional organization focused on enhancing the practice and
8public understanding of conflict resolution; and

9WHEREAS, The Association for Conflict Resolution is the
10nation's largest professional association for mediators,
11arbitrators, educators and other conflict resolution
12practitioners; and

13WHEREAS, Conflict Resolution Day was conceived to:

14(1) promote awareness of mediation, arbitration,
15conciliation and other creative, peaceful means of resolving
16conflicts;

1(2) promote the use of conflict resolution in schools,
2families, businesses, communities, governments and the legal
3system;

4(3) recognize the significant contributions of peaceful
5conflict resolvers; and

6(4) obtain national synergy by having celebrations
7happen across the country and around the world on the same
8day;

9and

10WHEREAS, The first Conflict Resolution was celebrated in
112005; and

12WHEREAS, The importance of Conflict Resolution Day is further
13underscored by the American Bar Association's (ABA) designation
14of the third week in October as ABA Mediation Week; therefore be
15it

16RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
1718, 2013, as "Conflict Resolution Day" in Pennsylvania.
