INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 17, 2013
A RESOLUTION
1Designating the day of July 26, 2013, as "Americans with
2Disabilities Act Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, (Public
4Law 101-336, 104 Stat. 327)(ADA) was passed on July 26, 1990 to
5ensure the civil rights of citizens with disabilities; and
6WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
7estimates that there are 475,000 people with a disability living
8in this Commonwealth; and
9WHEREAS, The Commonwealth affirms the principles of equality
10and inclusion for persons with disabilities as set forth and
11embodied in the ADA; and
12WHEREAS, The ADA is a thorough civil rights law which
13prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in the
14areas of employment, public entities, accommodations and
15telecommunications; and
1WHEREAS, Numerous organizations in this Commonwealth work
2with constituents and communities to bring forth the promise of
3hope and freedom that is envisioned by the passage of the ADA;
4and
5WHEREAS, July 26, 2013, celebrates the 23rd anniversary of
6the Americans with Disabilities Act; therefore be it
7RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the day
8of July 26, 2013, as "Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness
9Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
10RESOLVED, That the Commonwealth officially recognize the
11importance of raising awareness to the significance of the
12Americans with Disabilities Act.
