A RESOLUTION

1Designating the month of April 2013 as "Parental Alienation
2Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Parental Alienation is the psychological term used
4to denote the unacceptable manipulative process used by a parent
5to alienate a child from the other parent by encouraging the
6child to hate that parent; and

7WHEREAS, This process is most often used in the course of the
8parents' divorce; and

9WHEREAS, While divorce is the most common situation when
10Parental Alienation is used, it also has been known to happen
11during the course of unhappy marriages that do not end in
12divorce, as one parent seeks the exclusive companionship and
13alliance of the children or of a particular child in the family;
14and

15WHEREAS, Parental Alienation is a form of child abuse because
16it denies a child, through cruel manipulation, a loving and

1supportive relationship with both parents; and

2WHEREAS, The unhappiness bred by Parental Alienation has been
3known to lead to child kidnapping, murder and suicide, and such
4incidents have been reported notoriously on television and in
5newspapers; and

6WHEREAS, Awareness of Parental Alienation and its negative
7consequences will help to lessen its occurrence; therefore be it

8RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
9month of April 2013 as "Parental Alienation Awareness Month" in
10Pennsylvania.
