A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the month of January 2013 as "Learn to Ski and
2Snowboard Month" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's geography is the backdrop for outdoor
4recreation; and
5WHEREAS, Tens of thousands of winter enthusiasts migrate to
6the Pennsylvania mountains every week to ski and snowboard on
7trails that offer cruising comfort in a majestic setting or the
8excitement of a pulse-pounding challenge on a downhill course;
9and
10WHEREAS, There are more than 23 ski resorts in all regions of
11this State from the Endless Mountains to the Philadelphia
12suburbs, central Pennsylvania from the Maryland to the New York
13borders and throughout the Alleghenies; and
14WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania ski resorts have a significant
15economic impact on the communities they are located in and the
16Commonwealth as a whole; and
17WHEREAS, Participating in a snow sport provides an
18opportunity for exercise and friendship that will last a
1lifetime; and
2WHEREAS, Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month encourages children
3and adults to learn by taking lessons from professional
4instructors; and
5WHEREAS, Ski and snowboard areas throughout the United States
6offer free and reasonably priced turn-key lesson programs during
7the month of January as part of this initiative; and
8WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, along with
933 other states, the SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the
10Professional Ski Instructors of America-American Association of
11Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI), National Ski Areas
12Association (NSAA) and the National Ski Patrol have united to
13offer an affordable Learn to Ski and Snowboard program that will
14open the door to the wonderful world of skiing and snowboarding
15for many winter enthusiasts throughout the entire season; and
16WHEREAS, "Humans Were Never Meant to Hibernate" is the theme
17of this year's national effort, meant to get children and adults
18outside this winter for fun and exercise in the snow; and
19WHEREAS, We appreciate and thank the dedicated individuals
20who work tirelessly to uphold Pennsylvania's outdoor recreation
21and help maintain strong winter tourism in Pennsylvania;
22therefore be it
23RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
24month of January 2013 as "Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month" in
25Pennsylvania; and be it further
26RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
27Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, P.O. Box 27, White Haven, Pa
