AN ACT

 

1Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2Statutes, in other required equipment, further providing for 
3television equipment.

4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:

6Section 1. Section 4527 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:

8§ 4527. Television equipment.

9(a) General rule.--No motor vehicle operated on a highway
10shall be equipped with television-type receiving equipment
11[forward of the back of the driver's seat or otherwise visible
12to the driver.] unless the receiving equipment is so configured 
13that television broadcast or video images are not in view of the 
14operator of the motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is in 
15motion.

16(b) Exception.--This section shall not apply to the
17following:

18(1) Television-type receiving equipment in a vehicle

1used exclusively for safety or law enforcement purposes as
2approved by the Pennsylvania State Police.

3(2) Electronic displays used in conjunction with [in-
4vehicle navigation systems.]:

5(i) A vehicle information display.

6(ii) A global positioning device.

7(iii) A mapping display.

8(iv) A visual display used to enhance or supplement
9the driver's view forward, behind or to the sides of a
10motor vehicle for the purpose of maneuvering the vehicle.

11(v) A visual display used to enhance or supplement a
12driver's view of vehicle occupants.

13(vi) Television-type receiving equipment used
14exclusively for safety or traffic engineering
15information.

16(vii) A television receiver, video monitor,
17television or video screen or any other similar means of
18visually displaying a television broadcast or video
19signal if such equipment is configured to not show video
20or television broadcast images in view of the operator
21while the motor vehicle is in motion.

22Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
