1Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2act relating to the public school system, including certain 
3provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 
4schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 
5laws relating thereto," repealing provisions relating to
6Bible reading in public schools.

7The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8hereby enacts as follows:

9Section 1. Section 1516 of the act of March 10, 1949
10(P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
11amended December 17, 1959 (P.L.1928, No.700), is repealed:

12[Section 1516. Bible Reading in Public Schools.--At least ten
13verses from the Holy Bible shall be read, without comment, at
14the opening of each public school on each school day. Any child
15shall be excused from such Bible reading, or attending such
16Bible reading, upon the written request of his parent or
17guardian.]

18Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
