AN ACT
1Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2Statutes, in preliminary provisions, further defining
3"emergency vehicle."
4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:
6Section 1. The definition of "emergency vehicle" in section
7102 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes,
8amended June 22, 2012 (P.L.642, No.67), is amended to read:
9§ 102. Definitions.
10Subject to additional definitions contained in subsequent
11provisions of this title which are applicable to specific
12provisions of this title, the following words and phrases when
13used in this title shall have, unless the context clearly
14indicates otherwise, the meanings given to them in this section:

16"Emergency vehicle." A county emergency management vehicle,
17fire department vehicle, police vehicle, sheriff vehicle,
18ambulance, advanced life support squad vehicle, basic life
1support squad vehicle, emergency canteen support service
2organization vehicle, blood delivery vehicle, human organ
3delivery vehicle, hazardous material response vehicle, armed
4forces emergency vehicle, one vehicle operated by a coroner or
5chief county medical examiner and one vehicle operated by a
6chief deputy coroner or deputy chief county medical examiner
7used for answering emergency calls, a vehicle owned by or leased
8to a regional emergency medical services council that is used as
9authorized by the Department of Health to respond to an actual
10or potential disaster, mass casualty situation or substantial
11threat to public health, a vehicle owned by a county or regional
12police association and operated by a police officer that is used
13for police transport or victim extraction, a vehicle that is
14owned and operated by a correctional institution and used for
15the transport of prisoners in a city of the first class, any
16vehicle operated by a special agent, special agent supervisor,
17narcotics agent or narcotics agent supervisor while performing
18official duties as employees of the Office of Attorney General,
19any vehicle owned and operated by the Philadelphia Parking
20Authority established in accordance with 53 Pa.C.S. Ch. 55
21(relating to parking authorities) and used in the enforcement of
2253 Pa.C.S. Ch. 57 (relating to taxicabs and limousines in first
23class cities), or any other vehicle designated by the State
24Police under section 6106 (relating to designation of emergency
25vehicles by Pennsylvania State Police), or a privately owned
26vehicle used in answering an emergency call when used by any of
27the following:
28(1) A police chief and assistant chief.
29(2) A fire chief, assistant chief and, when a fire
30company has three or more fire vehicles, a second or third
1assistant chief.
2(3) A fire police captain and fire police lieutenant.
3(4) An ambulance corps commander and assistant
4commander.
5(5) A river rescue commander and assistant commander.
6(6) A county emergency management coordinator.
7(7) A fire marshal.
8(8) A rescue service chief and assistant chief.
9(9) The chief or operations director of a county
10hazardous materials response team.

12Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
