AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2act relating to the public school system, including certain
3provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5laws relating thereto," further providing for health
6services.

7The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8hereby enacts as follows:

9Section 1. Section 1402 of the act of March 10, 1949
10(P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is
11amended by adding a subsection to read:

12Section 1402. Health Services.--* * *

13(e.1) (i) The Department of Education and the Department of
14Health, in consultation with Statewide organizations
15representing physicians, psychologists, social workers and
16school counselors, shall develop age-appropriate mental health
17screening examinations for children of school age within one
18hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of this
19subsection.

20(ii)  The mental health screening examinations developed

1under subclause (i) shall be administered annually to each child
2of school age by the school physicians of each district or joint
3board, subject to the provisions of section 1407.  The results
4of the mental health screening examinations administered under
5this subclause shall be:

6(A)  reported to the child's parent or guardian;

7(B)  reported to the child's school; and

8(C) included in the comprehensive health record required to
9be maintained for each child of school age pursuant to
10subsection (b).

11(iii)  The Department of Education may develop any guidelines
12or standards necessary to implement this subsection.

13Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
