AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of June 13, 1907 (P.L.560, No.373), entitled 
2"An act designating the official flag of the Commonwealth of 
3Pennsylvania, and describing the same; providing for the 
4carrying of such flag by the regiments of the National Guard 
5of Pennsylvania; authorizing the Secretary of the 
6Commonwealth to provide, and have deposited in the office of 
7Secretary of the Commonwealth, a model of said flag, and 
8making an appropriation therefor," further providing for 
9specifications for the official flag of the Commonwealth and 
10for the duties of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

11The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
12hereby enacts as follows:

13Section 1. Sections 1 and 3 of the act of June 13, 1907 
14(P.L.560, No.373), entitled "An act designating the official 
15flag of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and describing the 
16same; providing for the carrying of such flag by the regiments 
17of the National Guard of Pennsylvania; authorizing the Secretary 
18of the Commonwealth to provide, and have deposited in the office 
19of Secretary of the Commonwealth, a model of said flag, and 
20making an appropriation therefor," are amended to read:

21Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That the flag to be known as

1the official flag of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania shall be
2of blue, same color as the blue field in the flag of the United
3States, and of the following dimensions and design; to wit, The
4length, or heighth, of the staff to be nine feet, including
5brass spear-head and ferrule; the fly of the said flag to be six
6feet two inches, and to be four feet six inches on the staff; in
7the center of the flag there shall be embroidered in silk the
8same on both sides of the flag the coat of arms of the
9Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in proportionate size; the edges
10to be trimmed with knotted fringe of yellow silk, two and one-
11half inches wide; a cord, with tassels, to be attached to the
12staff at the spear-head, to be eight feet six inches long, and
13composed of white and blue silk strands[.]; the word 
14"Pennsylvania" to be embroidered upon the flag in yellow silk 
15and to be centered within a symmetrical red festoon, similar to 
16that containing the State motto; and the festoon to be centered 
17above the bald eagle on the coat of arms.

18Section 3. The [Secretary of the Commonwealth is hereby
19directed to provide a] Pennsylvania Historical and Museum 
20Commission shall:

21(1) redesign the flag, in accordance with the description
22given in the first section of this act[, and keep the same
23deposited in the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, as
24a model; the cost of said flag to be paid by warrant of the
25Auditor General upon the State Treasurer; and for this purpose
26the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, or so much thereof as
27may be necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated, out of
28any moneys in the State Treasury not otherwise appropriated.];

29(2) place the original redesigned flag and model thereof in
30the Pennsylvania State Archives, as the official repository of

1the redesigned flag; and

2(3) publish the specifications for and a copy of the
3redesigned flag in the Pennsylvania Bulletin and on the
4commission's Internet website.

5Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
