INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MARCH 7, 2012  

A RESOLUTION

Designating March 8, 2012, as "Agriculture Day" in Pennsylvania

and congratulating the Agriculture Council of America for its

work in promoting the agricultural industry.

WHEREAS, The Agriculture Council of America (ACA), whose

primary focus is to conduct the annual National Agriculture Day

Program, was established in 1973 and is composed of leaders in

the agricultural, food and fiber communities who are devoted to

further developing public awareness of agriculture's fundamental

role in our society; and

WHEREAS, The ACA firmly believes that all Americans should

better understand how food and fiber products are produced, gain

an appreciation for the role agriculture plays in providing

safe, affordable and abundant products, value the role of

agriculture in growing and maintaining a strong economy and

better acknowledge career opportunities in the agriculture

industry; and

WHEREAS, National Agriculture Day is a program designed to

celebrate agriculture in our communities and promote

participation in agriculture amongst all Americans to further

appreciate the contributions of the industry in our everyday

lives; and

WHEREAS, Through the National Agriculture Day Program, the

ACA gives otherwise uninformed individuals, such as students not

often exposed to agriculture, the opportunity to consider career

opportunities in the agriculture industry; and

WHEREAS, Each American farmer feeds more than 144 people, a

number that has grown significantly over the past several

decades and will grow even more in the near future; and

WHEREAS, Informed citizens will be better able to participate

in establishing the policies necessary to support a competitive

agriculture industry in this country and abroad; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate March 8, 2012, as

"Agriculture Day" in Pennsylvania and congratulate the

Agriculture Council of America for its work in promoting the

benefits of the agriculture industry in our society.
