| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Congratulating the REALTORS® Association of Metropolitan |
2 | Pittsburgh (RAMP) on the 100th anniversary of its founding. |
3 | WHEREAS, On Thursday, May 11, 1911, a group of 30 members |
4 | created the Pittsburgh Real Estate Board with a purpose "to |
5 | create a closer bond and to improve conditions of the real |
6 | estate business by united action directed to the common goal"; |
7 | and |
8 | WHEREAS, The founders sought to "guide members in an ever- |
9 | improving ethical conduct of business and advance the dignity |
10 | and calling of the profession"; and |
11 | WHEREAS, The organization was a pioneer from the beginning; |
12 | founded just three years after the National Association of |
13 | REALTORS®, RAMP preceded the institution of real estate |
14 | licensing in Pennsylvania by more than a decade; and |
15 | WHEREAS, The RAMP founders were strong community leaders. The |
16 | first president, David P. Black, was also one of the nine |
17 | members of Pittsburgh's first city council; and A. J. Kelly, |
18 | Jr., the association's 6th president, was also an original |

1 | member of the council; and |
2 | WHEREAS, The second president of RAMP was Henry P. Hass, a |
3 | member of the city's zoning and planning commission; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Charles C. Hornor, the president in 1948, was |
5 | engaged in Mayor David L. Lawrence's Renaissance I, especially |
6 | as an advocate for a civic arena similar to the one that became |
7 | a reality in 1961; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The 1943 president, Fred Hettling, became a county |
9 | assessor, and numerous other officers and members have served |
10 | Allegheny County as hearing officers on the Board of Property |
11 | Assessment Appeals and Review; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The impact made by the members of RAMP has not only |
13 | been local, Frank T. Trohough, the 1950 president, sat on an |
14 | advisory committee to the Federal Reserve Board, dealing with |
15 | credit regulations; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Ron Croushore, the 2006 president, is currently |
17 | serving on the PA Housing Finance Agency Board; and |
18 | WHEREAS, For 100 years, the REALTORS® Association of |
19 | Metropolitan Pittsburgh has served real estate professionals and |
20 | the community as western Pennsylvania's most effective voice for |
21 | private property and industry professionalism; and |
22 | WHEREAS, RAMP enables its members to transact business to the |
23 | advantage and protection of the public and members and promotes |
24 | and maintains high standards of conduct; and |
25 | WHEREAS, Today RAMP boasts a membership of more than 2,000 |
26 | residential and commercial realtors who are dedicated |
27 | professionals who advance civil development and economic growth |
28 | in southwestern Pennsylvania, protect private property rights, |
29 | work for economy and efficiency in government and volunteer |
30 | their time to a variety of charitable organizations; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The REALTORS® Association of Metropolitan |
2 | Pittsburgh's centennial celebration will be held on Friday, |
3 | September 30, 2011, and Saturday, October 1, 2011, to celebrate |
4 | its past, present and future; therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate the REALTORS® |
6 | Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh on the 100th anniversary |
7 | of its founding. |
