INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 2, 2012  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Designating March 13 of each year as "K9 Veterans Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Dogs have been utilized by the United States

4

military from World War I to present conflicts; and

5

WHEREAS, In current conflicts, dogs are used to assist with

6

activities involving customs, search and rescue, border patrol,

7

police and secret service in order to better protect and serve

8

our country; and

9

WHEREAS, The United States K9 Corps, made possible due to the

10

Dogs for Defense Project, was established on March 13, 1942; and

11

WHEREAS, Many residents of this Commonwealth actively

12

participate in and engage in K9 training and operational

13

activities to assist the United States military and law

14

enforcement authorities; and

WHEREAS, Vietnam War Veteran Joseph J. White pioneered a

2

nationwide effort to recognize annually on March 13 the

3

accomplishments and sacrifices of K9 Corps dogs; and

4

WHEREAS, As a result of Mr. White's efforts, in many states

5

across the country, March 13 is annually recognized as "K9

6

Veterans Day"; and

7

WHEREAS, K9 dogs have made the ultimate sacrifice by laying

8

down their lives for their partners in the line of duty and are

9

valued for their loyalty and devotion; therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate March

11

13 of each year as "K9 Veterans Day" in Pennsylvania.
