A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Mr. Robert W. Mader, beloved Mayor of the

2

Borough of Alburtis, and expressing condolences upon his

3

passing.

4

WHEREAS, Mr. Robert W. Mader was born in Ridgewood, New

5

Jersey; and

6

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader graduated from Union Springs Central

7

School in Union Springs, New York, in 1953 and served in the

8

United States Army; and

9

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader settled in Alburtis and was actively

10

involved in making his community a better place; and

11

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader was a fourth generation volunteer fireman

12

and since 1973 was a member of the Alburtis Volunteer Fire

13

Department, where he held many different positions over the

14

years, including chief, assistant chief and fire police captain;

15

and

16

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader was a member of the Alburtis Borough

17

Council from 1996 to 2007 and was active with the Alburtis

18

Recreation Center; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader was a member of the Church of the Good

2

Shepherd United Church of Christ, where he was a past consistory

3

member; and

4

WHEREAS, Since 2007, Mr. Mader served as Mayor of the Borough

5

of Alburtis; and

6

WHEREAS, On October 22, 2012, Mr. Mader passed away at 77

7

years of age at his home; and

8

WHEREAS, According to borough secretary Sharon Trexler, Mr.

9

Mader "knew every inch of [the] borough" and "was the rock of

10

Alburtis"; and

11

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader was a great friend and mentor who

12

selflessly gave of his time and talent to serve his community;

13

and

14

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader enjoyed reading and gardening, was an avid

15

history buff and enjoyed annual visits to Gettysburg; and

16

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader was preceded in death by his son, Mark;

17

and

18

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader is survived by his wife of 39 years,

19

Shirley; his daughters, Bonnie, Gale, Carol, Susan, Elizabeth

20

and Patricia; his son, Robert; his sister, Anne; his brother,

21

Louis; his 14 grandchildren; and his seven great-grandchildren;

22

and

23

WHEREAS, Mr. Mader generously gave his heart and time to

24

enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the Borough of

25

Alburtis and his legacy will be forever remembered by the many

26

individuals who admired, loved and benefited from his many

27

contributions; therefore be it

28

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

29

Mr. Robert W. Mader, beloved Mayor of the Borough of Alburtis,

30

and express condolences upon his passing.
