| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing November 2012 as "Infant Safe Sleep Month" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The children of Pennsylvania are our most important |
4 | resource and the very foundation of the future of our |
5 | Commonwealth; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Hundreds of infants living in Pennsylvania die each |
7 | year in preventable tragedies because they are placed in unsafe |
8 | sleeping environments; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In April 1992, the American Academy of Pediatrics |
10 | Task Force on Infant Sleep Position recommended that infants be |
11 | placed on their backs to sleep; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The safest sleeping environment for babies is alone |
13 | on their backs in an empty crib with a tightly fitted sheet and |
14 | sufficient sleepwear; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Parents, grandparents, relatives and day-care |
16 | providers have access to resources to learn more about providing |

1 | babies with safe sleep environments at www.nichd.nih.gov; and |
2 | WHEREAS, The month of November is an opportunity to inform or |
3 | remind all caregivers to check infant sleep environments to help |
4 | prevent needless tragedies; therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize |
6 | November 2012 as "Infant Safe Sleep Month" in Pennsylvania. |
