A RESOLUTION

Memorializing the Congress of the United States to enact H.R.

2

1380 or S. 1863, the New Alternative Transportation to Give

3

Americans Solutions Act of 2011.

WHEREAS, Discovery of natural gas in the Marcellus Shale

5

formation may revitalize the Commonwealth's economy while

6

significantly contributing to energy independence; and

7

WHEREAS, The Marcellus Shale-related industry presents the

8

potential for generations of family-sustaining jobs, as well as

9

considerable secondary economic benefits and other positive

10

ripple effects throughout the Commonwealth; and

11

WHEREAS, The New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans

12

Solutions Act, or NAT GAS Act, significantly expands the use of

13

natural gas as a cleaner-burning, less expensive and

14

domestically abundant alternative to conventional transportation

15

fuel; and 

16

WHEREAS, Implementation of the NAT GAS Act could quickly

17

reduce the nation's dependence on foreign energy while

18

simultaneously reducing transportation fuel costs, greenhouse

gas emissions from vehicles and urban pollution where dense

2

vehicular fleets are prevalent; and 

3

WHEREAS, It is prudent that members of the General Assembly,

4

from time to time, express support for Federal legislation that

5

could positively impact Pennsylvania; therefore be it

6

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the

7

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the Congress of the

8

United States to pass H.R. 1380 or S. 1863, the New Alternative

9

Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2011; and be

10

it further 

11

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to

12

the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each

13

member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
