| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the month of May 2012 as "Beef Month" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The beef industry in Pennsylvania contributes $2 |
4 | billion to the economy each year and is an integral part of our |
5 | leading industry, agriculture; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Beef producers in this Commonwealth are helping to |
7 | ensure a quality food supply for consumers through voluntary |
8 | quality assurance programs that help to ensure safe, nutritious |
9 | meat products; and |
10 | WHEREAS, This segment of the farm community plays a vital |
11 | role in keeping agricultural land in production by adopting |
12 | environmental practices that enhance the land and preserve its |
13 | viability for future generations; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Two of the largest United States beef packers are |
15 | located in this Commonwealth, accounting for more than 1 million |

1 | head of cattle, beef and dairy origin, harvested annually; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Consumer demand for beef has been increasing |
3 | steadily in recent years due to the promotion, research and |
4 | education efforts paid for by beef producers through a $1 |
5 | checkoff program for each animal sold; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Beef continues to be a safe, wholesome part of the |
7 | dinner and lunch menus in homes and restaurants across this |
8 | Commonwealth; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's cattle industry is agile, committed |
10 | and responsive to animal and human health issues, assuring |
11 | producers and consumers alike that issues concerning food safety |
12 | and illness can be addressed promptly, professionally and |
13 | thoroughly; and |
14 | WHEREAS, All beef produced under the PA Preferred Program is |
15 | certified by the Pennsylvania Beef Quality Assurance Program; |
16 | therefore be it |
17 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
18 | month of May 2012 as "Beef Month" in Pennsylvania. |
