A RESOLUTION

Congratulating D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., for its many

2

accomplishments, including recently becoming America's

3

largest domestically owned and operated brewery.

4

WHEREAS, Founded in 1829 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, by

5

David G. Yuengling, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., has long been

6

recognized as America's oldest brewery; and

7

WHEREAS, The company officially received this designation in

8

1976, during the nation's bicentennial; and

9

WHEREAS, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., is also one of America's

10

oldest family-run businesses, owned and operated by members of

11

the Yuengling family for more than 180 years; and

12

WHEREAS, Thanks to the company's tremendous success, it can

now also claim the title of America's largest domestically owned

2

and operated brewery; and

3

WHEREAS, Its 2011 sales of 2.5 million barrels of beer

4

surpassed that of any other United States-owned brewery that

5

produces 100% of its beer in America; and

6

WHEREAS, The company's sales grew 16.9% last year, at a time

7

when overall beer shipments declined nationally, and it is now

8

ranked eighth in United States market share; and

9

WHEREAS, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., has survived the Civil

10

War, World War I, World War II and Prohibition; and

11

WHEREAS, Now, at a time when other breweries are closing or

12

falling under foreign ownership, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., is

13

not only surviving, but it is thriving as a successful American

14

business; and

15

WHEREAS, Yuengling beer is currently sold in 14 states and

16

the District of Columbia; and

17

WHEREAS, To keep up with demand, it has had to increase

18

production in recent years by building a second plant in

19

Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and purchasing a new one in Florida;

20

therefore be it

21

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate D.G.

22

Yuengling & Son, Inc., for its many impressive accomplishments,

23

including its recent designation as America's largest

24

domestically owned and operated brewery; and be it further

25

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express its

26

gratitude to the company for its commitment to Pennsylvania and

27

for keeping its products American-made; and be it further

28

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express its

29

strong desire to see D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., continue its

30

success for many more generations.
