INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 31, 2011  

A RESOLUTION

Commending John Dickson for his outstanding efforts to provide

children with Christmas toys by helping the Marine Corps Toys

for Tots program in Monroe County.

WHEREAS, The Marine Corps Toys for Tots program seeks to put

toys into the hands of disadvantaged deserving children at

Christmastime; and

WHEREAS, When parents struggle to buy food and pay heating

bills, children unfortunately sometimes have to learn to do

without toys at the holidays, making a surprise gift deeply

meaningful; and

WHEREAS, Although a civilian, John Dickson became involved

with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program in Monroe County in

2003, and by 2005 his efforts helped to establish the program in

Monroe County as one of the most successful in Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Close to 9,000 children are served by the program in

Monroe County, receiving books and stocking stuffers; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson strives to provide each child with four

gifts, because "When people lose jobs in Monroe County, their

children become our children. Every child deserves a Christmas";

and

WHEREAS, This modern day Santa Claus received the Chapel of

the Four Chaplains Award and the Salvation Army's Distinguished

Service Award because of his dedication to the Marine Corps Toys

for Tots program; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend John

Dickson for his outstanding efforts to provide children with

Christmas toys by helping the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program

in Monroe County.
