A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2011 as "Parent Involvement

2

Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Children are this Commonwealth's most vital and

4

valuable resource; and

5

WHEREAS, Parents are their children's first and most

6

influential teachers, and all parents and families have hopes

7

and goals for their children; and

8

WHEREAS, Parental involvement in children's learning prior to

9

school entrance is essential for school readiness; and

10

WHEREAS, Parental involvement in children's education is a

11

determining factor in a child's academic success; and

12

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth recognizes the important role that

13

parents, guardians, grandparents and other family members play

14

in children's learning and education; and

WHEREAS, Education is the foundation of our democratic

2

society and it provides the opportunity for children to reach

3

the highest levels of achievement and to live productive lives;

4

and

5

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth is dedicated to providing

6

high‑quality early childhood parenting support that engages

7

parents in their children's early learning; and

8

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth is dedicated to providing the high

9

quality education that all children deserve in accessible,

10

welcoming environments; and

11

WHEREAS, Community and faith-based organizations contribute

12

to learning and offer support services to families and schools;

13

and

14

WHEREAS, When parents work with schools supported by

15

communities in shared partnerships, children become lifelong

16

learners and community contributors; therefore be it

17

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

18

month of October 2011 as "Parent Involvement Month" in

19

Pennsylvania; and be it further

20

RESOLVED, That all residents of this Commonwealth be urged to

21

join the House of Representatives in recognition and celebration

22

of the importance of parents and families in their children's

23

lives and as full partners in their children's learning and

24

education.
