INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, FEBRUARY 10, 2011  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2011, as "Nurses Week"

2

in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, which

4

includes 30 organizational affiliates, is the largest

5

professional nursing association in this Commonwealth,

6

representing the more than 208,000 registered nurses and their

7

patients; and

8

WHEREAS, Established in 1903, the Pennsylvania State Nurses

9

Association has advanced the identity, integrity and continuity

10

of the profession of nursing in this Commonwealth; and

11

WHEREAS, The American Nurses Association, which represents

the nation's 2.9 million registered nurses through its 54 state

2

and territorial nurses associations, has supported and promoted

3

the nursing profession for more than 100 years; and

4

WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12

5

each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday;

6

and

7

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is working

8

diligently to chart a new course for a healthy Commonwealth that

9

relies on increasing the delivery of primary and preventative

10

health care, coupled with a strong focus on nursing care; and

11

WHEREAS, The nursing care provided by the registered nurses

12

of this Commonwealth is a paramount component of Pennsylvania's

13

health care delivery system; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

15

week of May 6 through 12, 2011, as "Nurses Week" in

16

Pennsylvania; and be it further

17

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join the

18

Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, the American Nurses

19

Association and other nursing organizations in recognizing the

20

selfless service of Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall

21

importance of quality nursing care.
