A RESOLUTION

Designating February 6, 2011, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble

4

background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and

5

advancing the public good, having been employed as an

6

entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of

7

California and President of the United States; and

8

WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for

9

two terms as the 40th President of the United States, winning

10

his second term by 3/5 of the votes cast and securing victory in

11

49 of the 50 states - a record unsurpassed in the history of

12

United States presidential elections; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated

2

President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by

3

rampant inflation and decreasing traditional jobs; and

4

WHEREAS, During his presidency he worked in a bipartisan

5

manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and

6

common sense to government which led to an unprecedented

7

economic expansion and job opportunity for millions of

8

Americans; and

9

WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social

10

policy agenda for the nation's children helped lower the crime

11

rate and drug use in our neighborhoods; and

12

WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces

13

contributed to the restoration of pride in America and prepared

14

United States Armed Forces to meet 21st century challenges; and

15

WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through

16

strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise

17

of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for

18

millions of people; and

19

WHEREAS, February 6, 2011, will be the 100th anniversary of

20

Ronald Reagan's birth, and the seventh since his passing;

21

therefore be it

22

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate

23

February 6, 2011, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in Pennsylvania and

24

urge all the citizens of Pennsylvania to recognize this

25

anniversary and participate fittingly in its observance.
