AN ACT

Designating the bridge carrying State Route 136 over the

2

Monongahela River connecting Forward Township, Allegheny

3

County, to the City of Monongahela, Washington County, as the

4

General Carl E. Vuono Bridge.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

6

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  General Carl E. Vuono Bridge.

(a)  Declaration of policy.--The General Assembly finds and

9

declares as follows:

(1)  General Carl E. Vuono, following graduation from

11

Monongahela High School, attended the United States Military

12

Academy in West Point, New York, and graduated in 1957.

13

(2)  General Vuono served in the United States Army and

14

served three tours of duty in Vietnam.

(3)  General Vuono rose in the ranks of the United States

16

Army to reach the rank of four star general.

(4)  From 1987 to 1991, General Vuono was the Chief of

2

Staff to the United States Army.

(5)  During General Vuono's career with the United States

4

Army, he received numerous medals, including the Legion of

5

Merit, the Bronze Star and the Army Distinguished Service

6

Medal, among others.

(b)  Designation.--The bridge carrying State Route 136 over

8

the Monongahela River connecting Forward Township, Allegheny

9

County, to the City of Monongahela, Washington County, is

10

designated the General Carl E. Vuono Bridge

11

(c)  Signs.–-The Department of Transportation shall erect and

12

maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to

13

traffic in both directions on the bridge.

Section 2.  Effective date.

15

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
