| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
2 | Statutes, providing for special plates for individuals in the |
3 | service of the United States Merchant Marine and for a | <-- |
4 | special registration plate for veterans and members of United |
5 | States military airborne units. |
6 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
7 | hereby enacts as follows: |
8 | Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
9 | Statutes is amended by adding a section sections to read: | <-- |
10 | § 1357.1. Special plates for individuals in the service of the |
11 | United States Merchant Marine. |
12 | Upon application of any person who was in the service of the |
13 | United States Merchant Marine during World War II, accompanied |
14 | by a fee of $20, which shall be in addition to the annual |
15 | registration fee, and by such documentation as the department |

1 | shall require, the department shall issue to the person a |
2 | special registration plate designating the vehicle so licensed |
3 | as belonging to a person who was in the service of the United |
4 | States Merchant Marine during World War II. The special |
5 | registration plate may be used only on a passenger car or truck |
6 | with a registered gross weight of not more than 14,000 pounds. |
7 | § 1366. Special plates for United States military airborne | <-- |
8 | units. |
9 | (a) General rule.--Upon application of any person who is a |
10 | veteran of or a member of a United States military airborne |
11 | unit, accompanied by a fee of $20 which shall be in addition to |
12 | the annual registration fee and by such documentation as the |
13 | department shall require, the department shall issue to the |
14 | person a special registration plate designating the vehicle so |
15 | licensed as belonging to a person who is a veteran of or a |
16 | member of a United States military airborne unit. The special |
17 | registration plate may be used only on a passenger car or truck |
18 | with a registered gross weight of not more than 10,000 pounds. |
19 | The department shall design and produce the special registration |
20 | plate to display a set of jump wings and glider wings. |
21 | (b) Definition.--As used in this section, the term "veteran |
22 | of or a member of a United States military airborne unit" |
23 | includes parachutist or glider units, glider troopers, |
24 | paratroopers, air assault troopers, Rangers, U.S. Army Special |
25 | Forces, USMC Recon, U.S. Navy Seals, U.S. Air Force Special |
26 | Operations, Troop Carrier Command, including glider pilots and |
27 | the 160th SOAR, military personnel who satisfactorily completed |
28 | the prescribed proficiency tests while assigned or attached to |
29 | an airborne unit and any other military personnel determined by |
30 | the department to be appropriately classified as a member of a |

1 | United States military airborne parachutist or glider unit. |
2 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
