INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, DECEMBER 17, 2009  

A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Temple University Owls football team on a

successful 2009 season and wishing the team good luck in the

EagleBank Bowl on December 29, 2009.

WHEREAS, The Temple University Owls football team posted a

9-3 regular season record, including an impressive 7-1 record in

Mid-American Conference (MAC) play; and

WHEREAS, The Owls fell one game short of securing an

appearance in the MAC championship game by suffering a

heartbreaking loss to Ohio University in their final regular

season game; and

WHEREAS, Under the tutelage of head coach Al Golden, the

spectacular play of freshman running back Bernard Pierce and

outstanding contributions from several other players, the Owls

posted their first winning season in 19 years and their best

team record since 1979; and

WHEREAS, The Owls' outstanding 2009 campaign earned them an

invitation to play in the EagleBank Bowl on December 29, 2009,

against the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA); and

WHEREAS, The invitation to play in the EagleBank Bowl marks

the Owls' first bowl bid in 30 years; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the

Temple University Owls football team on a successful 2009

season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives wish the Temple

University Owls football team good luck in the EagleBank Bowl on

December 29, 2009.
