A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of January 31 through February 6, 2010, as

2

"Catholic Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are

4

celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 31 through

5

February 6, 2010; and

6

WHEREAS, The theme for "Catholic Schools Week" this year is

7

"Dividends for Life"; and

8

WHEREAS, The theme focuses on the long-lasting benefits of a

9

Catholic school education, which invests in each child's future

by teaching them faith, knowledge, self-discipline and morals;

2

and

3

WHEREAS, Catholic schools seek to provide high academic

4

standards, positive spiritual values and a safe school

5

environment for their students to learn and grow into successful

6

adults; and

7

WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a solid

8

foundation of strong values, teaching commitment to serving the

9

needs of others in society, helping them to build healthy self-

10

esteem and to develop leadership skills; and

11

WHEREAS, Administrators and teachers of Catholic schools seek

12

to form a partnership with each student's family, encouraging

13

the input and involvement of parents in the education of their

14

children, which leads to higher attendance rates and lower

15

dropout rates; and

16

WHEREAS, Catholic schools are highly focused upon students'

17

dutifully completing their studies and homework, which helps

18

students to develop effective writing skills and prepares them

19

for standardized testing and higher education; and

20

WHEREAS, Catholic schools place special emphasis upon the

21

religious, moral and spiritual development of each student and

22

help them to understand that each person is valuable and unique

23

and has a special place in this world; and

24

WHEREAS, Catholic schools provide young people with the solid

25

values and academic skills needed to become responsible and

26

productive citizens of this Commonwealth; therefore be it

27

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week

28

of January 31 through February 6, 2010, as "Catholic Schools

29

Week" in Pennsylvania and express congratulations and

30

appreciation to Catholic elementary and secondary schools across
