INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, AUGUST 24, 2009  

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing September 26, 2009, as "Worldwide Day of Play" in

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The United Nations High Commission for Human Rights

has highlighted play and recreation in its Declaration of the

Rights of the Child; and

WHEREAS, Children's play promotes healthy development and

learning; and

WHEREAS, Children's play is part of childhood obesity

prevention; and

WHEREAS, Nickelodeon cable network is providing opportunities

for play and joining in the global fight against childhood

obesity in its fifth annual observance of "Worldwide Day of

Play"; and

WHEREAS, Nickelodeon's children and family channels,

including Noggin, Nick Jr. and NickToons, and their Internet

websites are participating in this year's observance; and

WHEREAS, "Worldwide Day of Play" features health-related

programming and a four-hour programming blackout for active

play; and

WHEREAS, Local playtime events are slated in the United

States and nine other nations in conjunction with "Worldwide Day

of Play"; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize

September 26, 2009, as "Worldwide Day of Play" in Pennsylvania.
