INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 9, 2009  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of March 30 through April 3, 2009, as

"Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week" in

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, "Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation

Week" is designed to raise awareness of the role of graduate and

professional students within this nation's colleges and

universities; and

WHEREAS, There are more than 100,000 graduate and

professional students currently studying in this Commonwealth;

and

WHEREAS, Graduate and professional students in universities,

through their notable accomplishments and outstanding

achievements, have contributed tremendously to the community;

and

WHEREAS, Graduate and professional students are the future

teaching professionals, researchers and leaders of the

political, business, cultural and educational institutions of

this State and of this nation; and

WHEREAS, Graduate and professional students have

distinguished themselves in their chosen fields; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's economy is strengthened by the

presence of graduate and professional students; and

WHEREAS, During "Graduate and Professional Student

Appreciation Week," universities in this Commonwealth will

celebrate the achievements of these students with appropriate

celebrations and activities; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

week of March 30 through April 3, 2009, as "Graduate and

Professional Student Appreciation Week" in Pennsylvania.
