A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of October 13 through 19, 2008, as "Free 2 and Accepted Masons Week" and designating October 18, 2008, 3 as "West Chester Lodge No. 322 Day" in Pennsylvania. 4 WHEREAS, Freemasonry is the largest and most widely 5 established fraternal order in the world devoted to the moral 6 principles of equality and peace; and 7 WHEREAS, Freemasonry has approximately 3.6 million members in 8 the countries of the free world, 1.6 million in the United 9 States and more than 125,000 in Pennsylvania; and 10 WHEREAS, Many of this nation's Founding Fathers were Free and 11 Accepted Masons, including the first President, George 12 Washington; and 13 WHEREAS, The beginning of Freemasonry in this Commonwealth 14 dates back to 1731 in Philadelphia; and 15 WHEREAS, West Chester Lodge No. 322, constituted in 1858, 16 continues today to instill in its members the virtues of 17 charity, benevolence, brotherly love and the practice of the 18 moral principles of life; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the Senate hereby designate the week of 2 October 13 through 19, 2008, as "Free and Accepted Masons Week" 3 and October 18, 2008, as "West Chester Lodge No. 322 Day" in 4 Pennsylvania saluting their support of the community through 5 volunteer work and charitable contributions.
