        REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, FEBRUARY 8, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of March 2008 as "Youth Art Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Art education is a viable endeavor, contributing
     4  educational benefits such as developing creative problem-solving
     5  abilities and critical thinking abilities in elementary and
     6  secondary students; and
     7     WHEREAS, Art education provides tools for students to lead
     8  fuller, more meaningful lives by teaching sensitivity to beauty,
     9  order and other qualities; and
    10     WHEREAS, Art education allows students to develop a deeper
    11  understanding of other cultures and beliefs; and
    12     WHEREAS, Art education enhances and reinforces the knowledge
    13  students gain in other subjects; and
    14     WHEREAS, National leaders recognize the necessity of
    15  including art education in all students' academic experience;


     1  therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of March 2008
     3  as "Youth Art Month" in Pennsylvania in recognition of the value
     4  of art education as a fundamental part of our educational system
     5  and an essential and viable academic endeavor.
