A RESOLUTION 1 Designating Monday, September 24, 2007, as "Family Day - A day 2 to Eat Dinner with Your Children 2007" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Parents eating dinner frequently with their children 4 reduces the risk of a child's involvement in substance abuse; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Research by The National Center on Addiction and 7 Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University consistently finds 8 that the more often children eat dinner with their families, the 9 less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs; and 10 WHEREAS, The conversations that go hand-in-hand with dinner 11 will help parents learn more about their children's lives and 12 better understand the challenges their children face; and 13 WHEREAS, CASA created "Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with 14 Your Children" in 2001 as a national effort to promote family 15 dinners as an effective way to reduce substance abuse among 16 children and teens; and
1 WHEREAS, Celebrated on the fourth Monday in September, the 2 observance emphasizes the importance of regular family 3 activities and encourages Americans to make family dinners a 4 regular feature of their lives; and 5 WHEREAS, Parental engagement is the most potent weapon in 6 preventing substance use and abuse among youths; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate Monday, September 24, 8 2007, as "Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children 9 2007" in Pennsylvania and encourage all families in this 10 Commonwealth to begin making family dinners a regular feature of 11 their daily routine.
