AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," providing for an annual report on the 6 elementary science curriculum grant programs. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known 10 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a 11 section to read: 12 Section 117. Annual Report on Elementary Science 13 Curriculum.--(a) The Department of Education shall annually 14 review the operation of any State grant program designed to <-- 15 provide intensive teacher training, professional development 16 opportunities and teaching resources to elementary level science 17 teachers in this Commonwealth and shall compile an annual 18 report. 19 (b) The annual report shall include the following
1 information for the fiscal year in which the report is issued: 2 (1) A listing of each school entity that received grant <-- 3 funds, the amount of grant funds received PARTICIPATING SCHOOL <-- 4 ENTITY, THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF PROGRAM FUNDS and an identification 5 of whether the grant PROGRAM funds were used to establish, <-- 6 maintain or expand any program related to teacher training, 7 professional development opportunities and teaching resources 8 purchased with the grant PROGRAM funds. <-- 9 (2) The criteria used to determine the eligibility of a 10 school entity to receive grant funds PARTICIPATE. <-- 11 (3) The criteria used to determine the amount of grant funds <-- 12 a school entity received ALLOCATION OF PROGRAM FUNDS. <-- 13 (4) The process a school entity utilized to apply for grant <-- 14 funds TO PARTICIPATE, including sample copies of any and all <-- 15 application forms, instructions and deadlines. 16 (5) For each school entity that received grant funds <-- 17 PARTICIPATING SCHOOL ENTITY, a listing of the teacher training, <-- 18 professional development opportunities and teaching resources 19 purchased with the grant PROGRAM funds. <-- 20 (6) For each school entity that received grant funds <-- 21 PARTICIPATING SCHOOL ENTITY, the number of students impacted by <-- 22 the teacher training, professional development opportunities and 23 teaching resources purchased with the grant PROGRAM funds. <-- 24 (7) A listing of any provider of teacher training, 25 professional development opportunities and teaching resources 26 with whom the Department of Education or the Commonwealth holds 27 a contract or agreement where such contract or agreement is used 28 to provide a school entity that received grant funds <-- 29 PARTICIPATING SCHOOL ENTITY with teacher training, professional <-- 30 development opportunities and teaching resources. 20070S0807B0936 - 2 -
1 (8) AN ASSESSMENT OF ANY IMPACT THE PROGRAM HAS HAD ON <-- 2 STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND SUCCESS. 3 (c) No later than June 30, 2007 FEBRUARY 1, 2008, and <-- 4 February 1 of each year thereafter, the Department of Education 5 shall submit the report required under this section to the 6 chairmen and minority chairmen of the Appropriations Committee 7 and the Education Committee of the Senate and to the chairmen 8 and minority chairmen of the Appropriations Committee and of the 9 Education Committee of the House of Representatives.
