A RESOLUTION 1 Urging the United States Congress to authorize the awarding of 2 Cold War Medals to recognize foreign service personnel who 3 served admirably abroad during the Cold War. 4 WHEREAS, The United States Armed Forces confronted and 5 engaged the forces of worldwide Communism continuously from the 6 end of World War II on September 2, 1945, until the dissolution 7 of the Soviet Union on December 26, 1991; and 8 WHEREAS, The United States, throughout this prolonged period, 9 depended on its citizen volunteers and draftees to perform 10 national military service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine 11 Corps and Coast Guard to defend the nation and its allies from 12 Communist aggression; and 13 WHEREAS, The collapse of the Soviet Union constituted the 14 greatest military success for the United States Armed Forces 15 since the end of World War II; and
1 WHEREAS, Americans who honorably served in the armed forces 2 during the Cold War should now be recognized with a service 3 medal; and 4 WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 1097 and Senate Bill No. 1763, as 5 well as the 2008 fiscal year's defense appropriations bill are 6 viable legislative vehicles to authorize and fund the medal; 7 therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the members 9 of the Congress of the United States to authorize the awarding 10 of Cold War Medals; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a Cold War Medal be authorized to honorably 12 recognize all military personnel who served on active duty 13 during the period September 2, 1945, through December 26, 1991, 14 and thereby recognize their military service during the Cold 15 War; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 17 each member of Congress from Pennsylvania and to all members of 18 the Armed Services Committee of the United States Senate and the 19 Armed Services Committee of the United States House of 20 Representatives.
