A RESOLUTION 1 Urging the Congress of the United States to appoint an 2 independent counsel to investigate the Prisoner of War - 3 Missing in Action issue. 4 WHEREAS, The Prisoner of War - Missing in Action (POW/MIA) 5 issue has been a national dilemma since the end of World War II; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, There is a strong need for an independent 8 investigation into all unresolved matters relating to any United 9 States personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, Korean 10 War, World War II, Cold War or Gulf War, including people who 11 are MIA or a POW; and 12 WHEREAS, It is the responsibility and duty of the United 13 States Government to bring home Americans missing in action from
1 the Vietnam War, Cold War, Korean War, World War II and Gulf 2 War; and 3 WHEREAS, As of July 2005, the Government Accountability 4 Office listed 88,115 servicemen and servicewomen unaccounted for 5 from World War II, Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, Gulf War 6 and other conflicts; and 7 WHEREAS, American POWs and their missing comrades have 8 demonstrated the true spirit of our nation and should never be 9 forgotten; and 10 WHEREAS, The families of these inspiring Americans deserve to 11 know what truly happened to their loved ones; and 12 WHEREAS, Americans from every generation have answered the 13 call of duty with dedication and valor; and 14 WHEREAS, These brave Americans deserve the respect and 15 gratitude of this nation and all efforts should be made to 16 resolve the POW/MIA issue in their honor; therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 18 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Congress of the United 19 States to appoint an independent counsel to investigate the 20 Prisoner of War - Missing in Action issue; and be it further 21 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 22 the President pro tempore of the United States Senate, the 23 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and to all 24 the members of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation.
