        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 25, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating October 11, 2007, as "Pulaski Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, Brigadier General Kazimierz Pulaski, also known as
     3  Casimir Pulaski, was a cofounder and commander of the Bar
     4  Confederation, which aimed to curtail the Russian hegemony over
     5  the Polish people; and
     6     WHEREAS, After the Confederation disbanded, General Pulaski
     7  was recruited by the Marquis de Lafayette and emigrated to the
     8  American Colonies to fight in the American Revolutionary War on
     9  the side of the Americans; and
    10     WHEREAS, Upon reaching the American continent, General
    11  Pulaski fought bravely for the Colonists, bringing his skill as

     1  a noted cavalryman and becoming known as the "Father of the
     2  American Cavalry"; and
     3     WHEREAS, From 1777 until 1779, General Pulaski fought bravely
     4  beside his new compatriots to gain independence for the
     5  fledgling country; and
     6     WHEREAS, On October 9, 1779, while probing for a weak point
     7  in the British lines, General Pulaski was shot; and
     8     WHEREAS, On October 11, 1779, General Pulaski died from his
     9  wounds; and
    10     WHEREAS, By Presidential Proclamation, every October 11 is
    11  "General Pulaski Memorial Day," dedicated to the memory of this
    12  great man and to the many contributions of people of Polish
    13  descent to this great nation; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
    15  11, 2007, as "Pulaski Day" in Pennsylvania.
