INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 23, 2007
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the work and achievements of Ben Gress, founder and 2 president of the Mountainville No. 30 Crime Watch in 3 Allentown, and commending the organization upon the 4 celebration of its 25th anniversary. 5 WHEREAS, The Mountainville No. 30 Crime Watch was organized 6 under the leadership of Ben Gress on June 14, 1982, and works 7 closely with the Allentown Police Department to fight 8 neighborhood crime; and 9 WHEREAS, The crime watch is the largest and one of the most 10 active groups of its kind in the City of Allentown and is 11 located at the foot of South Mountain in south Allentown; and 12 WHEREAS, As the organization's first and only president, Mr. 13 Gress has provided leadership for its 75 dedicated volunteers 14 for each of its 25 years and has initiated the following 15 programs: house watches for funerals and vacations, a child 16 watch, Halloween youth protection, child fingerprinting, senior 17 photoidentifications and nightly patrols; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Gress helped to organize 15 additional crime
1 watch programs in Allentown and in Northampton, Berks, Carbon 2 and Schuylkill Counties; and 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Gress received the Governor's Award in 1984 for 4 his initiatives and is the founder and organizer of the Leonard 5 Buck Awards Banquet which is held annually to recognize 6 volunteer achievements in crime watch programs; and 7 WHEREAS, Mountainville No. 30 Crime Watch has been an 8 outstanding and self-sustaining model for citizen involvement in 9 crime prevention; therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 11 work and achievements of Ben Gress, founder and president of the 12 Mountainville No. 30 Crime Watch in Allentown; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That Mountainville No. 30 Crime Watch be commended 14 upon the celebration of its 25th anniversary on June 14, 2007.
