        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 21, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating April 2007 as the "Month of the Young Child" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The National Association for the Education of Young
     4  Children annually promotes the "Week of the Young Child" to
     5  focus public attention on the needs of young children and their
     6  families and to support early childhood programs and services
     7  that meet those needs; and
     8     WHEREAS, In conjunction with the "Week of the Young Child,"
     9  the Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children
    10  is coordinating a project known as the "Month of the Young
    11  Child" in the Pittsburgh area during April 2007; and
    12     WHEREAS, The general goals of the "Month of the Young Child"
    13  are to provide activities and events that are inclusive of all

     1  children and their families; to provide a public forum for
     2  parents and others on the importance of positive early childhood
     3  experiences; to serve as a resource and referral source for
     4  early childhood educators, families and communities; to bring
     5  together a variety of organizations, agencies and individuals
     6  involved in services for children and their families; to provide
     7  information to enhance parent and provider knowledge of
     8  children's growth and learning in specific areas; and to
     9  celebrate children and those agencies and individuals who work
    10  on their behalf; and
    11     WHEREAS, The specific objectives of the "Month of the Young
    12  Child" are to take a proactive approach to promoting diversity
    13  awareness; to advocate public policies that will positively
    14  affect children, families and early childhood educators; to
    15  serve as a resource and referral source for early childhood
    16  educators, families and communities by sponsoring a Family Fair
    17  as an outreach event; to bring together a variety of
    18  organizations, agencies and individuals who serve or have an
    19  interest in young children and their families; to provide
    20  information to enhance parent and provider knowledge of
    21  children's growth and learning in specific areas; and to
    22  celebrate children and those agencies and individuals who work
    23  on their behalf; therefore be it
    24     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
    25  2007 as the "Month of the Young Child" in Pennsylvania.
