        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 30, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the importance of international education and
     2     encouraging students to take full advantage of any
     3     international education opportunities available to them.

     4     WHEREAS, Advances in communication and transportation
     5  technology over the past half-century have made today's world
     6  increasingly interconnected; and
     7     WHEREAS, As a result of technological advances, successful
     8  businesses, universities and governments depend on a global
     9  perspective; and
    10     WHEREAS, This new era of global exchange has created a
    11  marketplace of ideas in which citizens of the world from
    12  distinct social, cultural, religious and linguistic backgrounds
    13  cooperate and compete on a daily basis; and
    14     WHEREAS, Foreign trade is projected to be a key sector of
    15  Pennsylvania's economy, and thus the future of this Commonwealth


     1  is inextricably tied to that of the entire world; and
     2     WHEREAS, International education is critical to promoting a
     3  broadened world view and preparing Pennsylvanians for life and
     4  work in the global economy; and
     5     WHEREAS, Creating a diverse academic environment through
     6  student and scholar exchanges builds the foundation for future
     7  international business success; and
     8     WHEREAS, Our national security and economic competitiveness
     9  depend significantly on our ability to provide future leaders
    10  with the best education possible; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize that
    12  international education is an essential component of the bright
    13  future of this Commonwealth; and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives support and
    15  encourage international education to ensure that students and
    16  future leaders are prepared to meet the challenges of a global
    17  society.
