                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," in terms and courses of study,
     6     further providing for physical education.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1512.1 of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added
    11  July 11, 2006 (P.L.1092, No.114), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1512.1.  Physical Education.--[The] (a)  Subject to
    13  the provisions of subsection (b), the board of school directors
    14  in every school district shall establish a curriculum aligned
    15  with Pennsylvania academic standards on health, safety and
    16  physical education that pursuant to 22 Pa. Code § 4.27 (relating
    17  to physical education and athletics), requires pupils enrolled
    18  in the district to participate in physical education.
    19     (b)  The curriculum under subsection (a):


     1     (1)  Shall require pupils in kindergarten through fifth grade
     2  to participate in one hundred fifty (150) minutes of physical
     3  education during each school week.
     4     (2)  Shall require pupils in sixth through eighth grade to
     5  participate in two hundred twenty-five (225) minutes of physical
     6  education each school week.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
